Casa de Montecristo

Montecristo Cigars prides themselves on being one of the world's most recognizable cigar brands. In 2016, the cigar distributor opened up a premier cigar bar, marketing themselves as a "modern cigar bar". The problem was that the logo and branding did not reflect this mission statement. The challenge was to create a new visual identity that reflected Montecristo's long standing history, while giving the brand a refreshing, modern look.

A fresh, modern twist.

The key to creating this rebrand was keeping the logo traditional to pay homage to the brand’s history, while revamping the type to create an updated, refreshing look. Using Futura as an inspiration, I created a custom typeface with subtle flairs at the ends for an elegant feel. To push this, I added ornate lines framing the type, creating movement that mimics that of smoke.

To tie together the collateral, I created a take home cigar pairing kit. The goal of this kit is to make cigar smoking and pairing digestible to those who are less experienced. In creating this kit, Casa de Montecristo would be able to bring in customers who have found the process daunting and in doing so, widen their consumer base. The bi-level wooden box contains 1 informational booklet that teaches users how to pair different cigars with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, 3 types of Montecristo’s best selling cigars, and a set of matchboxes.
